TORONTO (Dec 12, 2011) – IBI Group has won top spot in the urban design category of the Design Exchange 2011 Urban Design Awards with the King Street Revitalization in Kitchener, Ontario.

Trevor McIntyre, the consulting designer on the project from the IBI Group’s Toronto office, said this was an ideal project because the entire street was remade. The roadway was narrowed, sidewalks widened, curbs lowered, parking spaces bounded by bollards that can be removed, new planters and new lighting installed. All were designed to quickly turn King Street into a pedestrian-only mall for festivals.
