OTTAWA – The Rideau Transit Group, a consortium that includes IBI Group, has been selected to build Ottawa’s $2.1-billion Confederation Line light rail transit project.

The consortium will build and maintain the 12.5 km, 13-station line running from Tunney’s Pasture in the west, through downtown Ottawa, to the existing Blair bus rapid transit station in the east.

IBI Group is designing the three underground stations beneath the city centre.

Ottawa City Council is expected to approve the plan later this month. Construction could begin as early as February. The entire line will not be completed until 2018, but work on the 2.5 km underground tunnel portion should be finished by 2017, in time for the 150th anniversary of Canadian confederation.
