Innovative IBI Group school featured in Architectural Record

PORTLAND – Sandy High School, designed by DOWA-IBI Group, was featured recently in Architectural Record, a major US architecture magazine. The high school is located in the Sandy, Oregon, about 30 miles southeast of Portland.

The challenge facing the architectural team was significant: design a large high school of more than 300,000 sq. ft. that would blend into its rural setting and not overwhelm the town of 8,000 people.

The solution was to break the mass of the building into a number of smaller units. The architects also used a number of innovative sustainable design techniques to reduce the school’s carbon footprint.
