PORTLAND – DOWA-IBI Group Architects has been awarded a $6.5 million contract to help modernize Franklin High School in Portland.

The total cost for modernizing Franklin, built in 1915 in southeast Portland in the South Tabor neighbourhood, is estimated at $85 million.

The next step is to work with community advisory groups and staff to develop a master plan to frame the scope of the project.

The project will begin this year and finish in 2017. It’s part of an eight-year, $482-million School Improvement Bond program approved by Portland voters last November to rebuild three high schools and bring seismic, roof, and science lab upgrades to dozens of schools.
