PORTLAND – The Lowrie Primary School in Wilsonville, Oregon, has won a gold citation for outstanding design in the American School & University 2013 Educational Interiors Showcase.

The jury praised the Lowrie school, designed by Dull Olson Weekes – IBI Group Architects, as “fun, playful, dramatic. A thoughtful design with good daylighting.”

The showcase is an annual competition honouring education design excellence in the United States. Projects are judged based on seven criteria: designs that create new solutions; cost efficiency; effectively meeting program requirements; adaptability/flexibility; sensitivity to community and context; innovation/creativity; and integrated, transparent, and seamless technology.

“The library is the center of research and inquiry for Lowrie,” said Karina Ruiz, Associate Principal at DOWA – IBI Group Architects, “It’s designed to be part of a student’s everyday journey through school rather than a destination to be visited one day a week. As the heart of the school, the student-centric space breeds community and inspires a love of learning.”
