Unilever Distribution Centre wins REX award
DateApril 23, 2014
TORONTO – The Unilever Distribution Centre, a large industrial project in Brampton, Ontario, has won a Toronto real estate award. IBI Group provided planning, urban design, landscape architecture and civil engineering at the official plan, zoning, and subdivision levels and planning at the site plan level.
The distribution centre, developed by client group H&R REIT, Canadian Commercial Capital, Giffels Westpro and Unilever Canada, won 2013 Best Industrial Lease at the NAIOP Greater Toronto Chapter Real Estate Excellence (REX) Awards Gala held recently in Toronto.
Staff in the IBI Group Mississauga office who worked on the project include Scott Arbuckle (planning and project management), Tiffany Brule (landscape architecture), and Scott MacDonald (civil engineering).
The 750,000 sq ft, LEED-certified warehousing, distribution, and co-packaging centre represents a consolidation and expansion of several Unilever facilities in the Greater Toronto Area and approximately 500 jobs for the City of Brampton.
As the single largest industrial design/build for lease project since 2007, the Unilever Distribution Centre was recognized by NAIOP for its challenges and complexity.
Unilever will be the largest tenant on the 7900 Airport Road Gateway Center, an 85-acre office/industrial park on the former John Rhodes Driver Training Centre in northeast Brampton. At final build-out, this project will ultimately see the conversion of vacant institutional lands to a productive business center for approximately 1,000 employees.
