TORONTO – IBI staff from the Richmond Street office visited Volleyball Canada’s beach training facility in Downsview Park on Sunday to play a mini tournament and skills challenge. IBI Group is currently working on the Transportation Delivery Plan for the 2015 Pan Am / Parapan Am Games and also fundraising in support of contending athletes at Volleyball Canada.

Steve Anderson, a four-time Olympic Beach Volleyball coach and head of Volleyball Canada, kicked off the event with a team-building seminar encouraging athletes and professionals alike to adopt a team structure and winning attitude, and encouraged learning from mistakes to improve performance.

Sam Pedlow and Grant O’Gorman, and Melissa Humana-Paredes and Taylor Pischke, make up two two-person teams vying for spots in 2015 Pan Am / Parapan Am Games and the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. They coached IBI staff through the athletic portion of events and spoke about their appreciation for the sport.

“Beach Volleyball teaches you a special kind of mental toughness,” explained Taylor. “Because there are only two of us, we have to be ready to step up to the plate every time.” Taylor and Melissa recently returned from their second Bronze win at the NORCECA U23 World Beach Volleyball tournament in Myslowice, Poland.

Grant and Sam finished 4th in a FIVB tournament in Fuzhou, China. “We’re excited for our friends and families to see what we actually do with our time,” said Grant about the Pan Am Games being held in Toronto. “They’ll finally see why we’re always training. They’ll finally see us play on the world’s stage, against world-class athletes.”
