IBI Group to design new AAM tech center in Detroit
DateAugust 7, 2014
DETROIT – IBI Group has announced it will be providing architectural and engineering services for a new technical center for American Axle & Manufacturing (AAM) at the firm’s headquarters in Detroit.
AAM is a leading automotive supplier of driveline and drivetrain systems and related components for light trucks, SUVs, passenger cars, crossover vehicles, and commercial vehicles. The new $20 million centre, expected to employ up to 100 people, will be used to develop prototype components and test manufacturing lines.
IBI’s renovation of the two-floor, 100,000 sq ft facility include selective demolition of interior building components, lobby upgrade, new flooring, new ceiling grid and tile, wall partitions, doors and finishes, six new conference rooms, new furniture, bathroom partitions and fixtures, a new elevator, and the design of a new HVAC system.
The work significantly changes the existing space from a dated, 1970s-era constrictive office layout into a modern, open-office environment.
