IBI Group working on sustainable transportation planning project
DateAugust 8, 2014
IBI Group is currently providing the Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India, with the expertise to help plan sustainable transportation in the country.
IBI is developing guidance documents for Transit Oriented Development, Non-Motorized Transportation Planning, and Public Bike Sharing Schemes.
The documents are aimed at changing the model of urban transportation planning as currently practiced in Indian cities.
“The preparation of these guidance documents is one of the most important initiatives taken by Ministry in ensuring that cities will have the tools and the methods to manage mobility and invest in more sustainable transport systems,” said Ashish Ghate, IBI Group planner. “The outcome of this project will influence the lives of over a billion people.”
As part of the project, IBI will also prepare six city-specific plans to test the ability of the guidance documents to solve practical transportation planning issues.
The project is expected to be completed by December 2014.
