ROCHDALE, UK – Local officials and fire and ambulance representatives gathered to break ground on a £15 million, IBI-designed Ambulance and Fire Rescue Service Resource Centre (AFSRC) in Wexham last week .

“The new facility is designed to improve quality of service while achieving value for money,” said IBI Group’s Robin Ainley. “It will efficiently integrate combined resources such as training facilities and vehicle maintenance areas, meaning staff will have the opportunity to advance communications, skills and knowledge.”

The 3,600 sq m centre will replace local ambulance and fire stations, allowing for greater coordination when responding to incidents and ultimately improve response times. The facility’s design will introduce new working methods based on the Welsh Ambulance Service’s ‘Make Ready’ concept in order to minimize cross infection and maximize patient safety.

The design aims to achieve BREEAM Excellent and will be delivered by BAM Construction for occupation in December 2015.
