Construction Cup Proves Football is #notjustforboys

The Construction Cup, one of the industry’s most popular charity football tournaments has celebrated its first ever event where equality was the goal.
Organised by global design and technology firm, IBI Group and headline sponsored by contractors, Wates Construction the event saw 36 teams unite together and raised over £5,500 in aid of Construction Youth Trust (CYT).
Katie Endicott from IBI Group said: “Football, similar to the construction industry can be male-dominated, therefore we wanted to encourage women to be an integral part of the event. Launching our #CC2016Equality campaign offers an important opportunity to celebrate the diverse make-up of our talented industry. It has received unprecedented support; enhancing the fun, competitive spirt of a tournament that continues to give back to the community, year on year.”
John Graham from Construction Youth Trust said: “We are delighted that the Construction Cup event is focusing on equality as this couldn’t be better aligned with our own campaign; ‘#notjustforboys’. We are looking forward to putting the funds raised from this fantastic event into educate, train and inspire more women and young people find their career paths in the construction industry.”
Willmott Dixon were crowned winners of the 2016 tournament held at the PowerLeague pitches under Wembley Stadium’s iconic arch, with Turner & Townsend taking second place.
Richard Shroll, Wates Group Construction Director, commented: “This is fantastic tournament, which unites the industry not only to raise funds for the Construction Youth Trust, of which our Director Andy Wates is Chairman, but it creates a great platform for social networking outside of the office environment.”
From the continued success of the Construction Cup since 2011 over £24,000 has been raised for charitable causes, with 105 companies partaking in the tournament.
