Barbara Helton, AIA

Registration Number C19188 - 1988

Barbara joined our firm as a partner over nine years ago and serves as project principal on our more complicated urban school projects. She has managed elementary and secondary school projects for the Hawthorne, Pomona Unified, Long Beach Unified, San Gabriel Unified, and Los Angeles Unified School Districts. Her K-12 project management experience is extensive and varied, ranging from a $36 million high school, the retrofit of a commercial office building for high school use to the addition of a small library on an existing campus. Additionally, she was the Project Architect on the award-winning Pueblo Elementary School.

Barbara brings a special ability to a project with her strong management and communication skills. She understands when to employ compromise and when to hold ground, all under the umbrella of respect and collaboration with each member of the team.

Passionate about education, Barbara received a state AIA award for her work in developing the BEEP program in Orange County, a program which has brought architecture and urban planning into over 35 elementary school classrooms. She is an active participant in architectural education committees, including CAE and CASH, and is a regent of the California Architectural Foundation. In 1999, Barbara served as President of the Orange County Chapter of the American Institute of Architects.
