This project was the result of a design competition sponsored by the school district. The campus houses 1600 students, designed on an "unbuildable" site acquired by the district for one dollar. A $13 million grading project created 30 useable acreas on the steep hillside for a fraction of the cost of condemned land in the city of Pomona. In collaboration with Design Architect Thom Mayne, FAIA, of Morphosis, our firm was the Executive Architect in charge of funding, technical issues, educational programming, and state agency compliance. Diamond Ranch was dubbed "The World's Coolest High School" by the New York Times Teen Supplement, and has recieved more acclaim from architecture critics than any project of its type in California.
