IBI Group•Gruzen Samton established its practice in Alexandria, Virginia, in 1994 when we were selected as the interior design architects and planners for the EPA’s National Headquarters in Washington, DC.
The office has since grown to over 30 planners, architects, and interior designers focused on federal, state, and municipal government clients. We are recognized as a leading planning and interior design practice in the Washington, DC, area with a strong base of repeat clients. We have planned and executed projects totaling over 10 million sq ft in the Washington, DC, metropolitan area.
The majority of our recent work has been in the renovation, re-use, and technological upgrade of federal and local government buildings and extensive interior planning and design commissions. Our charge has been to provide adaptive re-use design services for existing facilities and bring new life to important civic buildings while upgrading and restoring both interior and exterior spaces.
Our projects include interior design work in new and existing structures and leading major infrastructure upgrade efforts. Our recent work with GSA, the National Institutes of Health, and the District of Columbia government includes exploring office mobility, alternative work arrangements and new approaches for improving workplace efficiency. Environmentally sustainable architecture and design have been integral to our practice since our work with the EPA National Headquarters where we helped develop and implement many of the sustainable design standards in use today. We have numerous projects that have achieved LEED® Platinum, Gold, and Silver certification.
