BC Cancer Research Centre
IBI Group / Henriquez Partners Architects in Joint venture.
In the spring of 2000 the IBI / Henriquez team was appointed as architects for the new BC Cancer Research Centre. In collaboration with Earl Walls Associates, a facility program (benchmarked to world-class research standards) has been developed as the basis for design. In addition to the management of the design team, IBI Group was charged with the responsibility of all user group liaison, a formidable task given the wide array of stakeholders.
The site, adjacent to Vancouver General Hospital, required an extensive rezoning process. The first phase will be a 21,000 sq.m. state-of-the-art research facility comprised of modular laboratory space and support infrastructure including a vivarium and specialized core facilities. Construction began in the fall of 2002.
