The primary objective of the Drop-In Centre is to provide transition housing for homeless street people. Major components include:
- Overnight shelter
- A drop-in area and dining hall
- Support services
The design of the building itself is an important component in facilitating this transition process. It achieves this by making visible the support services and by providing an environment in which increased privacy and amenity are provided to those clients who have earned the trust of the Centre. It has become a source of considerable local pride that the entry to “corporate Calgary” is framed by a homeless shelter, a recognition of the City’s compassion.
