A successful project is usually the result of the close cooperation and team work between the owner, the architect, the engineers, the contractor, and design and construction professionals.
Mark Bendix is a Director with over 35 years of experience in the management, direction and coordination of large technical groups. He has an Electrical Engineering background and has been responsible for the evaluation, planning, design and maintenance of industrial, commercial and institutional facilities across a wide cross section of these sectors. This includes transit facilities, automotive plants, water and wastewater facilities, hotel and entertainment facilities, transformer stations, aviation facilities and office buildings. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in a number of Canadian provinces and is a Fellow of Engineers Canada. Mark is responsible for the technical and financial performance of the Toronto West office that provides a diverse range of services and oversees the performance of design teams on complex projects. This includes interpreting and understanding the project requirements, confirming these with the various stakeholders and sponsors, identifying the various design services needed, maintaining and adjusting resources as required to meet schedules and budgets, coordinating the various design tasks and teams and executing the design quality assurance and control processes.

There is nothing more rewarding than knowing that your designs have made a difference - however small. Having been lucky enough to work on significant projects designed specifically for children (from birth to adulthood) improving those patient’s journeys has been an amazing experience.
Charles first joined IBI in 1997 working in the London office. Moving to Belfast in 2011, he re-joined the company in 2022 with a desire to broaden his experience of quality design projects outside of Northern Ireland in the context of a changing climate. Healthcare is his focus, where having been involved in new build projects at Great Ormond Street, he then led the design and delivery of the Ulster Maternity Hospital and Women & Children’s Projects in Belfast. He is a proactive and highly motivated architect with a wide range of experience in design and construction. Charles has specialised in the management, design and co-ordination of complex projects at various stages within the design process. Charles is a talented designer, who has worked in partnership with several universities and is acutely aware of the benefits good design can bring to our clients.
