DateApril 12, 2016
Over the last decade, the sharing economy and collaborative consumption have entered the mainstream. But what do these terms really mean? Inspired by the groundbreaking book What’s Mine is Yours: The Rise of Collaborative Consumption, Archininja looks at this important trend and its implications for sustainable housing development and co-housing. By sharing resources, skills and space, they found that people living in co-housing lived more sustainably and experienced social benefits. However, the stigma around shared housing among mature adults continues to limit popularity. For cities where housing prices continue to skyrocket, shared dwellings or co-housing initiatives present another avenue to stable living arrangements, and might be worth a second look.
