Redefining metropolitan living
IBI Group provided master planning and entitlement services for the overall site, and architecture services for the design of the first six buildings of Gilmore Place, a new transit-oriented development (TOD) in Burnaby, BC. With its prime location neighbouring the Brentwood Centre, this vibrant, mixed-use community is truly at the heart of Burnaby’s urban growth master plan and will become the gateway between Burnaby and Vancouver.
The master planned community replaced 12 acres of underutilized space with a high-density, mixed-use retail, office and residential development woven together by a network of plazas, pedestrian-oriented streets, lanes and bikeways. Conveniently located near the SkyTrain, Gilmore Station has been fully integrated into the development, so all residents, employees and visitors are within a quick three-minute walk of the station. Through creative site planning and building design, the IBI team resolved the design and logistical challenge of maintaining operation of the transit facility throughout the construction of buildings and underground parking that are within feet of the station and guideway.
The architecture combines commercial podiums with office buildings and residential towers as tall as 64 storeys, set within dynamic public spaces at street level and tranquil residential terraces and gardens above.
