His award-winning design work has been recognized by OAA Awards, Design Exchange Awards, Toronto Urban Design Awards and ID Annual Design Awards, and is included in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art. In 2012, Rick was recognized by Twenty + Change, a biennial exhibition and publication series promoting Canada’s top emerging design practitioners. Richard Mazuch is an architect and designer who gains great satisfaction from translating holistic ideas into radical but pragmatic solutions. An authority on healthcare, Richard provides profound insight into designing for global trends, patient groups and clinical provision – informing key decisions throughout the architectural process. Richard has worked on healthcare projects in Italy, Hong Kong, Brazil, Oman, UAE, and more recently Australia. He has been elected as a World Architecture Jury member, as well as being a University lecturer/examiner and speaker at the International Conferences.

Richard has strong relations with key health bodies. He has worked extensively with the NHS contributing to Health Building Notes, Health Technical Memorandum, and their ‘therapeutic environment’ website feature entitled “Slight Sensitive Design and Sound Sensitive Design” enabling designs to build evidence-based healthcare environments.

Richard is a founder and champion of IBI TH!NK. An advocate of evidence-based design, Richard creates innovations that positively impact the psychology and physiology of patient groups. Sense Sensitive Design, Emotional Mapping, the Design Prescription and the hPod are a few of the models that Richard has successfully pioneered. This has led to him authorising two new NHS guidelines for ‘Evidence-based Design Healthcare Environments’.
Richard is a product designer. In collaboration with manufacturers, he creates interventions, such as the BedPod, to support and improve patient care.
Richard works frequently with the NHS and DOH Expert Working Groups and Reference Groups helping to develop new Healthcare Strategies and Guidelines. More recently he has co-authored three key Paediatric Guideline documents entitled: ‘Hospital Accommodation for children and young peopleHBN 23’, ‘Friendly healthcare environments for children and young people’ and ‘Mental Health faculties for children and young people’.

Richard was also an active member and contributor to the Expert Reference Group responsible for ‘Facilities for Maternity Care’ HBN21. He was a key contributor to ‘The Children’s National Service Framework’ an NHS and Department of Health document with evaluation process and recommendations Richard made early contributions and document reviews of ‘Creating a Better Health Environment’ an Audit Took Kit by The National Childbirth Trust in 2003.
In education, Richard is translating his work in healthcare paediatrics to benefit teachers and students. Working alongside University partners, he is pioneering the development of an ‘optimal learning environment’, improving motivation, behaviour and concentration amongst pupils, especially those with special educational needs.

Tony Burley is the US Healthcare+ Lead and has managed multiple design and project teams for all scales of healthcare and science projects. With over 25 years of experience, Bryan McKeown’s background is with education facilities and high-rise residential buildings. He served as project architect on five major school projects with the NYC School Construction Authority: two new early childhood centers, an addition to an inter­mediate school, and a new design-build primary school. Notably, Bryan recently oversaw the renovation and expansion of Columbia Grammar and Prep School. As project manager, Bryan leads a team to ensure prompt and successful completion of a building project. We have passed the point where half of the worlds population is living in cities. If we as planners and designers want to continue to fight urban sprawl, then we need to focus on maintaining a high quality of green infrastructure in our cities and in particular around transit. The public realm, including parks, streets, shared streets and public plazas need to be designed to maximize the human experience. How we animate those spaces, and manage them with a mix of good design and technology will dictate the quality of life in our future cities.

Trevor McIntyre is Global Director, International, which includes IBI Group offices in Europe, the Middle East, and India. He is responsible for the region’s operational results, including financial performance, professional and technical excellence, staff motivation and development, and client satisfaction.
He is a Landscape Architect and member of the Canadian Society of Landscape Architecture and the American Society of Landscape Architecture.

Trevor has been a leading planner, landscape architect, and urban designer for more than 20 years, with projects in Canada, USA, Europe, the Middle East, South America, and Asia. He leads the Toronto IBI Group design practice in community planning and design, master planning, and landscape architecture.
He has a Masters Degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Guelph.

He is the Project Manager for the cities of Jeddah and Al Madinah travel model and Public Transport systems design, the Arriyadh comprehensive public transport plan and the electronic tolling for Attiki Odos the ring road in Athens, Greece and led the integration of multi-application smart card systems project in Europe, under the e-Europe program.

Mustafa has provided consulting services to the European Commission on funding ITS projects and proposals since 1998 and is the Technical Manager of the IMS Project, a Canadian initiative funded by the Federal government for the implementation of multi-modal and multi-application smart card systems since 1999.
