Regardless of your main mode(s) of mobility – transit, bike, car or something else – we all walk. It might be a trip across the city, or simply across the parking lot, but at some point every day, nearly every able person is a pedestrian. And yet, in many urbanized environments, engineers, planners and policymakers have made walking the most unpleasant form of mobility available. In recent years, city builders have been reawakening to the benefits of walking however. Now, Fast Co.Exist has compiled a list of 50 reasons we should all want more walkable neighbourhoods. From happiness and health to economics and resilience, the list includes something for even the most committed anti-pedestrians. Undoubtedly, there are many more reasons for walking.
