VANCOUVER – The City Of North Vancouver has selected the new Greta and Robert H.N. Ho Psychiatry and Education Centre (The HOpe Centre), designed by IBI Group, for a 2015 Award of Excellence.

The HOpe Centre is part of the Lions Gate Hospital complex in North Vancouver. IBI Group provided architecture, interior design, and planning services on the project.

The centre’s design is fresh, bold, and state-of-the-art. It allows for the separation of uses and the different client/patient population, with patient security and privacy at the forefront. The in-patient floor consists of shared living spaces, lounges, exercise room, private rooms, and a large roof garden and exterior spaces that promote social interaction.

“The award recognizes outstanding effort and success in the advancement of architectural and landscape design,” said IBI Group architect and project lead Tony Gill. “The HOpe Centre creates a comforting and attractive ambience for its patients and residents, while announcing itself as a facility at the forefront of patient care for mental health issues.”

“It will revolutionize the perception of psychological care and education, and dramatically evolve mental health facilities by connecting with the community through a strong link with the urban fabric,” he added.

“Your project has contributed to the City of North Vancouver’s quality in the built environment through excellence in architectural and urban design, and making the City a community of which we can be proud,” said David Johnson, Development Planner for the City of Vancouver. “Congratulations on this achievement.”
