IBI Group system software powers awards at ITS World and ITS Canada Annual Conferences

Oct 27, 2015, Toronto Ontario: The British Columbia Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure has been honoured at both the ITS World Congress and ITS Canada Annual Meeting with awards for the contribution of its Regional Traffic Management Centre (RTMC) to incident management, data sharing and emergency response coordination.

For the ITS World Congress (Oct 5-9, Bordeaux, France), the RTMC operation received the Local Government Award for the Americas. For the ITS Canada Annual Meeting (May 24-27, Gatineau, Quebec), the RTMC received the award in the Larger Municipality Area or Provincial/Federal Application category.

As the Advanced Traffic Management Systems supplier and integrator for the RTMC, IBI Group is proud to be associated with these important achievements.

The project was a joint undertaking between the British Columbia Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, Transport Canada and TransLink to develop a regional and multi-agency centre to coordinate management of various modes of transportation – addressing the transportation needs and challenges across the province of BC – especially the Metro Vancouver area.

The BC transportation management centre is running ATMS5, IBI Group’s latest version of its market leading traffic management system software. The software provides a host of advanced features to assist with network operations, including incident management, message sign response logic, integration of CCTV, and a host of data analysis and reporting techniques.

“The BC Ministry wanted a feature rich ATMS to manage the highway network across the province, as well as key tunnels and bridges in Metro Vancouver,” says IBI Group Project Director Homayoun Vahidi.

“It was also important to the Ministry that the centre act as a multi-agency facility empowering Metro Vancouver municipalities, ports, and emergency authorities to share video and data, and better coordinate during emergencies.”

The web-based dimension of ATMS5 is a key enabler of the multi-agency vision of the RTMC.
