IBI Group Develops First-of-its-kind, Location-Based Mobile App for Travellers in Greece

IBI Group was selected by Olympia Odos to develop the first location-based mobile app for motorway users in Greece, a move that strengthens an existing relationship between the two firms. Having previously provided Olympia Odos with a Toll and Traffic Management System, the innovative mobile application offers users an intuitive interface and real-time information for improved high-speed travel along Greece’s most modern roadway.

The Olympia Odos motorway is a 202-km motorway concession, connecting the cities of Athens, Corinth and Patras. Tasked with designing a system that would improve the driving experience for motorists, IBI developed a mobile app that displays an interactive map via a safe and easy-to-use interface, conceived especially for in-motion use. The mobile application adds to the motorway’s modern appeal to drivers, connecting them more easily to operators and the technologies that support high-speed transit, including the Electronic Tolling Collection system (ETC) we previously developed for Olympia Odos.

Designed for simplicity and effectiveness, the app provides trip planning features, including weather & incident forecasts, virtual tours, emergency calling, location-based personalized information functions, traffic prediction information and a feeds-based messaging system that actively engages with the user’s community. For ETC subscribers, the app also enables users to manage their account, including invoice information and real-time account reloading.

The system’s capacity to be quickly and easily integrated into drivers’ experience of the motorway was a guiding principal for our project team. “We are proud to partner with Olympia Odos on a tool that’s highly advanced and, at the same time, easy to use. The application can help us get closer to and optimally serve every member of the motorway’s community of users,” said Antulio Richetta, Director of Eastern Europe. “Future versions of the app will offer even more innovative interface options, which combined with the appropriate field devices and analytics, will allow for a lower cost, more friendly and reliable tolling system.”
