Serene, lakefront living optimized for Oakville residents
Located in the heart of Bronte Village along Lake Ontario, with immediate highway access to Toronto and Hamilton, The Shores is an extremely desirable place to live in the area of Southern Ontario most poised for growth over the next decade.
The Shores has set a new standard for mixed-use buildings along the Oakville waterfront. Its ground floor use and built form are animating the street year-round, providing ‘eyes on the street and park’ and a significant addition to the public realm. The placemaking extension of the heritage square to the public park adds to the diverse character of the Oakville waterfront and helps reinforce it as a destination for the local community.
Birchgrove Estates wanted to promote the natural surrounding views through the building’s design. Its lower lattice work and its sweeping, ship-like horizontal terraces, softened with continuous edge planters and glass rails, enhance its connection to the waterfront. A rooftop pool is also prime for connecting residents with its lake view.
At the pedestrian level, street trees, landscape and setbacks allow for outdoor cafes and pleasant sidewalks. Retail shops and live-work units are articulated with stone portals and canopies or awnings at-grade. All parking and servicing is fully enclosed to minimize impact on the neighbourhood, further ensuring a pristine streetscape.
