Maarit is an experienced, Chartered Architect with years of experience in high profile and award-winning sheltered and extra care housing, retirement villages and care homes located throughout the UK.

Maarit specializes in architecture and design for over 55’s, designing bespoke and inspiring residential architecture which allows for flexibility within the design for changing needs and individuality of the residents with a consideration to their health and well-being. Each design is a unique response to the site and brief, and developed through a dialogue with clients and end-users. During her career, her designs have achieved several awards for design quality, most recently at Healthcare Design Awards 2018 and Housing Design Awards 2017.

Maarit has designed retirement living developments worth £20m+ in value. Working with some of the largest local authorities, charities, housing associations and private developers in the UK, her knowledge has provided her with the best practice knowledge and innovation in this sector.

Mike Richardson

With over 29 years of experience, Mike has developed an acknowledged reputation for high quality, award winning innovative design solutions. Mike has experience developing complex bespoke briefs with Government Departments, clients and stakeholders. He has senior responsibility and specializes in the design and delivery of multi faceted projects including a diverse range of secure, blue light, healthcare, and education building types throughout the UK, Isle of Man and Channel Islands.

Tony Burley

Tony Burley is the UK & Ireland Managing Principal for the Buildings group. He has led the design and management of project teams for all scales of healthcare, research and mixed use projects. His broad experience spans new build, refurbishment and strategic planning of facilities, in roles as both designer and client representative, and covers Traditional, Design and Build, Framework and P3 procurement routes. The multiple perspectives from this broad experience provides Tony with a real understanding of the opportunities and challenges that face developers and end user clients, and fuels a passion for ongoing innovation in the built environment at the intersection of design and technology.

Tony is an excellent communicator and regular conference speaker, who enjoys building strong relationships with clients, users and wider stakeholder groups.

Sarah Woolmington

Sarah Woolmington has over ten years of experience working in the healthcare sector and is the lead for healthcare team in IBI Group’s Manchester office. Sarah has the ability to grasp new ideas and integrate them into desired results and is strongly committed to delivering innovative architecture. She has a range of experience across major new build and refurbishment projects for both NHS Trusts and private healthcare clients. She has been involved in both primary and acute care projects from inception to completion through various procurement routes including traditional, partnering and design and build.

Sarah has an enthusiasm for meaningful stakeholder consultation and the ability to develop the brief through engagement and interpretation of client/end user needs.

Richard Mazuch

Richard Mazuch is an architect and designer who gains great satisfaction from translating holistic ideas into radical but pragmatic solutions. An authority on healthcare, Richard provides profound insight into designing for global trends, patient groups and clinical provision – informing key decisions throughout the architectural process. Richard has worked on healthcare projects in Italy, Hong Kong, Brazil, Oman, UAE, and more recently Australia. He has been elected as a World Architecture Jury member, as well as being a University lecturer/examiner and speaker at the International Conferences.

Richard has strong relations with key health bodies. He has worked extensively with the NHS contributing to Health Building Notes, Health Technical Memorandum, and their ‘therapeutic environment’ website feature entitled “Slight Sensitive Design and Sound Sensitive Design” enabling designs to build evidence-based healthcare environments.

Richard is a founder and champion of IBI TH!NK. An advocate of evidence-based design, Richard creates innovations that positively impact the psychology and physiology of patient groups. Sense Sensitive Design, Emotional Mapping, the Design Prescription and the hPod are a few of the models that Richard has successfully pioneered. This has led to him co-authoring two new NHS guidelines for ‘Evidence-based Design Healthcare Environments’.
Richard is a product designer. In collaboration with manufacturers, he creates interventions, such as the BedPod, to support and improve patient care.

Richard works frequently with the NHS and DOH Expert Working Groups and Reference Groups helping to develop new Healthcare Strategies and Guidelines. More recently he has co-authored three key Paediatric Guideline documents entitled: ‘Hospital Accommodation for children and young peopleHBN 23’, ‘Friendly healthcare environments for children and young people’ and ‘Mental Health faculties for children and young people’.

Richard was also an active member and contributor to the Expert Reference Group responsible for ‘Facilities for Maternity Care’ HBN21. He was a key contributor to ‘The Children’s National Service Framework’ an NHS and Department of Health document with evaluation process and recommendations Richard made early contributions and document reviews of ‘Creating a Better Health Environment’ an Audit Took Kit by The National Childbirth Trust in 2003.
In education, Richard is translating his work in healthcare paediatrics to benefit teachers and students. Working alongside University partners, he is pioneering the development of an ‘optimal learning environment’, improving motivation, behaviour and concentration amongst pupils, especially those with special educational needs.

Richard Golledge

Richard Golledge is a qualified architect specialising in education and healthcare design. As a strong team leader, he has managed the design and delivery of projects under various public sector procurement routes and contracts, including the NEC Partnering contract. Richard is experienced in creating specialist learning environments for leading universities. Adept at delivering schemes from master planning to construction, he works closely with stakeholder groups to deliver the strategic vision. He understands how important the built environment is as a marketing tool for attracting students and has demonstrated this by developing a striking scheme at Cardiff University.

In healthcare, Richard has worked on a number of specialist and acute schemes. He works closely with Trusts to provide value for money.
In science, Richard has developed a very good understanding of laboratory planning and research space design, creating buildings that inspired collaboration, productivity and innovation. Richard has also been heavily involved in IBI’s ‘Four Labs Four Cities’ research project, a comparative study to define best practice features within laboratory spaces.

Richard graduated from the Welsh School of Architecture, Cardiff University, where he was awarded the Edward Loveluck Travelling Scholarship 2002. His experience also includes work in the residential sector, where he won a Regional RIBA Award for a one-off house in Malmesbury. His innovative approach to design has been supported by his keen interest in research and development.

In 2009, Richard was selected by the Design Commission for Wales, Royal Society of Architects Wales and the WSA to exhibit his work at the ‘Reflecting Wales 09:09’ exhibition which showcased work of the best of emerging architects in Wales. In 2010, Richard exhibited at the National Eisteddfod in Wales.

Pip Burrows

Pip Burrows is an interior designer, tasked with supporting the wider IBI Group interiors team, and working principally in the healthcare, science and education sectors. He consistently strives to create environments that inspire wellbeing across multiple sectors and takes a people focused approach to any scheme. He has taken a keen interest in healthcare design and is continually applying his design skills to aid in the production of high quality schemes. Pip has evolved a skill set well adapted to producing captivating visualisations and accurate technical detailing. He is also familiar with the associated challenges presented throughout a project and is capable of responding to these with innovative solutions.

Paul Whittlestone

During this time he has been involved in several major clinical reconfiguration exercises across both whole healthcare systems and individual hospitals, as well as contributing to and leading on the investment of several billion USD in the redevelopment of healthcare infrastructure, including major new hospital projects in the UK, Europe, North America, Australia and the Far East.

Neil Evans
