IBI Group Recognized for Industry-Leading Architecture and Urban Design
– Multiple architecture and urban design projects receive industry awards –
TORONTO, ON (April 4, 2019) – As the seventh largest architecture firm in the world and the largest Canadian firm[1], IBI Group has a rich history designing cities and communities that spans four decades. A global, technology-driven design firm with more than 2,600 employees, its Living+ practice has recently been recognized with multiple industry awards. Affirming the company’s strength in designing liveable, accessible and vibrant cities and communities, these awards recognize the outstanding contributions of IBI Group’s architecture professionals from across North America.
IBI Group’s design of Paragon Developments’ Parq Vancouver, in collaboration with ARCOP and ACDF Architecture, won a Judges Choice Award at the NAIOP Vancouver and Business in Vancouver Commerical Real Estate Awards of Excellence. Parq Vancouver is an international entertainment destination featuring two luxury hotels and a wide range of amenities, including a casino, eight diverse restaurants and lounges, a world-class spa, modern fitness studio and more. “Located in the heart of downtown Vancouver’s vibrant entertainment district, the design of the 800,000 sq. ft. resort was inspired by the architecture of the city and the mountains that surround it,” said Project Manager, Jeff Christianson. The urban resort has become an integral part of Vancouver’s cultural fabric.
Onni Group’s CentreView condominium development in North Vancouver won a UDI Award of Excellence for Best Mixed-Use Building. The IBI-designed residential-retail development is comprised of two residential towers, 24- and 17-storeys respectively, a four-storey office building, and a podium with various commercial and retail spaces. The facility also adheres to socially responsible and community-based principles by incorporating affordable housing units and a 5,000 sq. ft. daycare centre. “CentreView exemplifies IBI Group’s approach to designing smart cities with its close proximity to public transportation, recreation areas, and other amenities,” said Director, Martin Bruckner. An innovative mix of residential, retail and office space, this mixed-use development has become a hub for local residents to live, work and play.
IBI Group’s design of Ryerson University’s Jarvis Street Residence was awarded UrbanToronto’s Best Building of 2018 in the 30-39 storeys category. This 30-storey, mixed-use tower brings over 500 additional residence spaces to downtown Toronto to help meet the ever-growing demand that Ryerson University attracts. “This sleek, modern residence is in keeping with Ryerson’s approach to city building and reflects the core principles of the Ryerson Master Plan: urban intensification, putting people first through pedestrianization of the urban environment, and a commitment to design excellence,” said Director Drummond Hassan, who led the design process.
At the 14th annual Hospitality Design Awards, Sydell Group’s Freehand Hotel in New York was recognized as a Finalist for Best Public Space (Lifestyle). Originally the historic George Washington Hotel in New York’s Gramercy Park neighborhood, the interior and exterior of the 90-year old structure was redesigned by IBI Group, in partnership with Roman & Williams, to create the 395-room Freehand Hotel. The 167,000 sq. ft. property still holds some of its original architectural features, including a mix of styles from Jacobean to neoclassical. Design work included modifications to the existing penthouse, a renovation of all ground-floor and mezzanine amenity spaces, and the augmentation of the existing roof structure to accommodate the newly-integrated outdoor lounge. The entrance marquee was also restored to its design from the 1950’s.
IBI Group’s design of East West Partners’ One Empire Pass, a ski-in/ski-out luxury condominium lodge, won Most Outstanding Hospitality Resort 2018 from Utah Construction & Design. Located in the village at Deer Valley Ski Resort, the modern mountain design of this lodge is offset by its rustic timber vibe. Site elements include après-ski patios equipped with a fire pit and bocce court, an event deck and hot tub terrace with two vanishing edge spas and adjacent hammock gardens, an onsite gym and exercise room, and a master plaza with a grand staircase perfect for signature family photo moments. Nestled within the breathtaking aspen forest, the luxurious four-season mountain lodge provides a unique leisure living environment, embracing both up-valley and down-valley views of ski slopes above and the historic Old Town Park City below.
A selection of residential and mixed-use architecture award wins, IBI Group has received multiple awards and accolades for its global projects and integrated services in interior design, planning, engineering, technology, and other areas of architecture.
