IBI Group’s New Model of Working

IBI Group has taken decisive action in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. We have worked swiftly and thoughtfully to ensure the health and safety of our staff, clients and partners, while fulfilling our obligations and commitments to our clients.

Since the start of the viral outbreak, IBI Group has worked swiftly and thoughtfully to respond to the daily containment measures and restrictions coming from governments around the world. We continue to prioritize the health and safety of our staff, clients and partners, while fulfilling our obligations and commitments to our clients.

Because of our leadership as a technology-driven design firm; the internal systems and automations we have established, and the strength of our IT and Design Technology teams, we have been well-prepared to navigate the challenges of the pandemic. Our 2,700 staff continue to operate successfully as a fully remote workforce, and we have experienced very little interruption to our work during this transition.

With many governments across the globe easing restrictions and as the 2020/2021 school year commences with many students returning to the classroom, IBI is also thoughtfully considering what a return-to-office strategy will look like for our more than 60 offices worldwide. We are currently piloting the opening of a number of North American offices and leveraging our Nspace workplace management app which effectively addresses the issues of social distancing, health self-assessments and contact tracing. An innovative solution developed as an agile response to the pandemic, Nspace is also supporting our clients who are dealing with similar challenges related to the occupancy of their offices.

Given the success we’ve achieved through remote work however, and the additional benefits both to our environmental footprint and the work-life balance of staff, we are evaluating what the ‘Office of the Future’ will look like, and plan to lead by example. As we work to develop this strategy, I am not in a hurry for staff to return to the office and continue to feel that the wise choice across the majority of our offices, from a health and safety standpoint, is for staff to continue to work remotely.

I am very proud of our staff globally who have demonstrated strength and perseverance in the face of these extraordinary circumstances, but I also recognize staff are facing challenges related to social isolation and emotional well-being. I continue to encourage IBI’s leadership to find ways to create connection, support balance and ensure staff feel they are part of our OneIBI family.

Our agility, our ability to innovate, and our expertise in designing solutions like Nspace to respond to our clients’ needs, has positioned us well to adapt to the rapidly evolving circumstances. The COVID-19 pandemic will come to an end. When it does, we will together be stronger and more resilient for it.
