TRANSIT-realtime

Our system serves as the centralized hub to aggregate, manage, control, and disseminate transit real-time data including service alerts, vehicle locations, and arrival predictions for all transit modes for an agency or multiple agencies in a region. 

Customers expect real-time updates about where their buses, trains, and ferries are and when they will arrive. For agencies, this presents challenges. Bus and rail data may be in two separate feeds. Even worse, when service alerts are issued for cancelled trips or closed stops, arrival predictions continue to show up. TRANSIT-realtime allows agencies to effectively address these and other real-time data management concerns. 

TRANSIT-realtime provides data every day to agency customers of well known transit agencies including TransLink (Vancouver, BC), King County Metro (Seattle, WA) and Community Transit (Everett, WA).

Key features include: 

Input and Processing

TRANSIT-realtime takes in one or more General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS)-realtime feeds from agency systems, such as a CAD/AVL or train tracking system. It combines the feeds together into one consolidated feed. 

Full GTFS Integration

The TRANSIT-realtime system is one of the first of its kind to fully integrate with GTFS formatted schedule information, automatically tagging all real-time data (like trip updates, vehicle positions, and service alerts) with GTFS identifiers.

Powerful Outputs

TRANSIT-realtime provides real-time alerts, locations, and predictions in uniform formats across transit modes via GTFS-realtime feeds and a web services API. This makes it easier for agency and third party developers to take advantage of real-time data.

Service Alert Integration

When TRANSIT-alerts and TRANSIT-realtime are deployed together, all GTFS-realtime feeds are generated with common GTFS identifiers for trips, stops, and routes. Creation of certain alert types in TRANSIT-alerts generates corrected GTFS-realtime feeds from TRANSIT-realtime, improving consistency for the customer.
