Bay Technology Centre

The Bay Technology Centre will be a self-sufficient, ‘energy positive’ or active building. A combination of design features, energy-efficient construction methods and materials, and integrated renewable energy generation and storage mean that the Technology Centre will generate its own energy.

Excellent BREEAM
2,500 sq m Size

Delivery of an energy-positive commercial building relied upon our architects working collaboratively with powerful design and modelling technologies. IBI Group’s parametric modelling approach optimises passive design for the building fabric, helping design team partners model the best possible operational energy performance, airtight build solutions, and renewable and low carbon technologies for heating and cooling.

The Technology Centre’s design team are aiming to gain a high scoring BREEAM Excellent rating, with an almost unheard of 100 per cent score for Energy Credit 01 (ENE01), covering energy performance, prediction of operational energy, beyond zero net regulated carbon, carbon negativity and post-occupancy evaluation. We further expect the building to achieve an energy performance ratio of 0.998 – an improvement of 281 per cent relative to existing building regulations.

The three-storey, 2,500 sq. m. Technology Centre will become home to knowledge-based firms and start-ups on Baglan Energy Park, a key site for the Swansea Bay City Deal regeneration programme. Led by Neath Port Talbot Council, the Centre is a key element alongside smart low carbon ‘homes as power stations’ and innovative manufacturing projects funded by the £1.3 billion Swansea Bay City Deal.
