Erin is a strategic planning and smart cities specialist working to transform cities and communities to become more livable through the effective application of technology, with a particular focus on the health, welfare, and success of people in those communities. She has spent the last 10 years as a technology analyst, strategic planner, and project manager working with cities, regions, and transportation and transit agencies planning for, designing, implementing and deploying technology solutions, with an emphasis on mobility.

Her focus has been on solving our clients’ problems through communication, collaboration, and critical thinking. Erin is also a leader within our Smart Cities practice working with smart mobility engineers, urban planners, and software developers to identify, pursue, and implement smart projects throughout North America. Erin’s smart mobility experience includes both management and strategic planning roles in the development of advanced transportation technologies and solutions that cover all modes.

Sam has over eight years of experience working with transit real-time passenger information systems and CAD/AVL systems. Sam leads the implementation and operations and maintenance of IBI Group’s transit data suite of software for clients including TransLink (Vancouver), Los Angeles Metro, and RTD (Denver). This suite of software includes TRANSIT-alerts, which is used to enter, manage, and disseminate service alerts, and TRANSIT-realtime, which aggregates, manages, and disseminates real-time locations and predictions. Sam also has a focus on real-time passenger information systems for rail and has designed and developed light rail and commuter rail real-time passenger information systems for RTD (Denver), SunRail (Orlando), and NFTA (Buffalo).

Prior to joining IBI Group in 2015, Sam worked for the MBTA (Boston) for over four years. At the MBTA he designed and developed software that generated real-time arrival predictions for the subway lines and published the predictions on countdown signs and for app developers, served as system administrator for the bus CAD/AVL system, and managed the MBTA’s GTFS data. Sam has a Master’s degree in Transportation and a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics.

Ross is a senior architect and learning environment planner with more than 30 years of experience, with the past 20 years specializing in educational architecture. He is highly experienced in all phases of projects, from visioning through to final completion; and in a wide variety of project sizes, including new construction, renovation, historic preservation and reuse, and STEM focused schools.

A seasoned advocate for K-12 education, he has seen two of his projects recognized by the CEFPI (now A4LE) James D. MacConnell Awards committee. Ross is passionate about using design to connect students to their learning and natural environment and is a strong proponent of inclusive and culturally relevant community engagement for schools. His volunteer efforts include “working the phones” in support of school districts’ capital bond measures, local food banks and community non-profits, and speaking engagements at educational design conferences.

Rebecca is an extremely creative and dedicated architect and educational planner who brings a high level of design sensibility and technical skill to the team. Rebecca leads our planning and programming efforts and facilitates student, teacher, and community outreach. She has a passion for designing spaces that are functional 21st-century teaching and learning environments.

Rebecca has been with the firm since 2007 and her versatility allows her to contribute to projects at all stages including facility assessment, pre-design, planning, design, and construction. She understands the value of broad stakeholder involvement and works to ensure all voices are heard.

During Mat’s 17 years with the firm he has enjoyed a diverse and extensive collection of projects. A recent effort has been the new Hockinson Middle School, an innovative public school in Southwestern Washington. He worked collaboratively with the contractor to bring it to completion, while being an advocate for key design concepts. Mat takes great care in all facets of the design process, applying a critical eye throughout every stage of a project. He is a valuable member of any team, willing to handle any task asked of him in order to adhere to project schedule and budget without compromising on design quality and intent.

Providing clients with a final product that satisfies and exceeds their vision is what inspires Mat. He was a key player in the modernization projects for North Santiam School District that involved upgrades to existing schools, and is project architect for Tigard-Tualatin School District’s Twality Middle School.

Levi is the Design Lead for our practice. As an architect, designer, and leader, Levi comes to every project with a broad perspective and deep understanding of each stage of design and construction. His ability to focus and prioritize as a project moves forward enables him to lead design concepts from inception to completion while maintaining design intent, and achieving the goals of the client and project teams.

Levi’s work before joining our IBI Group includes award-winning K-12 design such as Kodiak High School in Kodiak, AK, A.G. Bell Elementary in Kirkland, WA, and Scappoose High School, in Scappoose, OR.

Bill has over 30 years of managing school design and construction projects, where he uses his design and project management abilities to ensure success for the districts with whom he collaborates. Bill believes in staying actively connected on projects from planning through construction, to help ensure quality, consistency, and communication are maintained over the life of the project.

Stacy Unholz is an expert Project Manager with over 15 years’ experience managing projects in all areas of intelligent transportation systems such as advanced traveler information services (ATIS), advanced traffic management systems (ATMS), and strategic planning.  Ms. Unholz has supported several projects in the areas of Smart Cities and Internet of Things (IoT), helping to design and deploy technology solutions to mobility, sustainability and livability.

Ms. Unholz is currently the Project Manager for the Los Angeles County Service Authority for Freeway Emergencies (LA SAFE) 511 Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system covering the greater Los Angeles area.   She is also supporting the design and development of a ground transportation permitting system for the Los Angeles Department of Transportation.

Ms. Unholz has extensive experience with 511 traveler information systems and has been involved in several 511 projects at all levels, from definition of functional requirements to implementation, operation, and successful upgrade and enhancements of services.  Ms. Unholz works with IBI’s Solutions group to support national deployment of an integrated suite of services that includes integration of third party data feeds, and the distribution of traveler information via website, mobile application, IVR systems and social media platforms.

Carl is a Senior Project Manager with over 18 years of experience in the field of landscape architecture, having worked on various projects types in the U.S. and abroad. Carl is a lead designer responsible for all phases of projects and is committed to a collaborative process. He is currently working on projects ranging from urban mixed-use developments to resilient waterfront developments and higher education campuses to corporate campus headquarters.

Based in the Portland office, Rebecca is part of the Learning+ team and has specialized in educational architecture and sustainable design during her 17 years of professional practice. A leader at IBI Group for nearly a decade, she is an astute project manager and effective communicator who ensures that design intent is carried through a project from concept to construction. She deftly balances sustainability, budget, timeline, stakeholder engagement, and innovative, results-oriented design in her service to clients and community.

Rebecca is a LEED Accredited Professional with the U.S. Green Building Council and an Architects-in-School Program Member with the Architectural Foundation of Oregon.  She played an integral role in the successful completion of award-winning LEED Gold projects including Parkrose Middle School Replacement, Sandy High School, and Trillium Creek Primary School. Rebecca was also involved in the design of the Snohomish Aquatic Center, a truly unique facility north of Seattle.
