In preparation for the 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games, IBI Group’s transportation engineers began mapping out an ITS strategic plan around the GTHA for Metrolinx. The plan included regional ITS objectives for local agencies, and focused on five key areas: incident management, cross-boundary traffic and transit control, traveler information, capacity management, and transit priority.

As lead consultant, building on the ITS strategy, IBI has been involved in the development of Triplinx from the initial concept development through to implementation and operational support. IBI carried out market research to determine the needs of the customers and to develop priorities for system development.

Triplinx provides an integrated trip planner across 11 transit agencies within the GTHA, available through both a website and mobile app. It is also used by customer service operators from the participating transit agencies to provide customer advice. These services were heavily relied upon during the Pan Am/Parapan Am Games.

Triplinx currently includes transit information for Brampton, Burlington, Durham Region, HSR (Hamilton), Oakville, Milton, MiWay (Mississauga), Toronto, and York Region, as well as UP Express and GO Transit. We are currently completing planning work for the start of Triplinx Phase 3 service alerts.

A new mobile ecosystem is changing the way we interact with and move throughout our cities.
