Serena leads IBI’s New York State education practice and has devoted her career to re-imagining learning environments in both new and historic contexts. With over 25 years of experience, she has a nuanced understanding of the evolving challenges that academic institutions constantly face, and her transformative designs have won numerous international and local awards. Her expertise spans from master planning and architectural design to complex adaptive reuse projects.

Serena’s specialty is strategic thinking, imaginative problem solving, and an ability to inspire engaged teamwork throughout the life cycle of a project. Her deep commitment to a people-centered and contextual design approach consistently delivers meaningful architecture with an identifiable and welcoming sense of place. She strongly believes in environmentally responsible design and is well-versed in Net-Zero Energy and Passive House building technologies.

Serena received her Master’s degree in Architecture from MIT. She has authored articles on a wide range of topics relating to academic settings, and is a frequent speaker at national conferences on school design. She co-chairs the AIA New York Education Committee and is a Fellow of the Urban Design Forum.
